Thaketa Community Climate Adaptation Project

Community and Placemaking Project

Location: Thaketa Ward (5), Yangon, Myanmar

Project   :  Two year Pilot - Project

Year        : January 2020 - December 2021

Role         : Community Engagment & Design Intern

The Thaketa Climate Adaptation for Water Security Project is a two-year pilot project (January 2020-December 2021) aimed at designing, implementing, and evaluating a range of climate adaptation interventions in Thaketa, one of Yangon's most flood-prone and water-scarce townships.

The goal is to develop an innovative network-driven stakeholder participation process for designing and implementing various types of climate adaptation interventions in the pilot project, based on the social innovation approach used by one of the most successful and innovative climate adaptation programs in the Netherlands: Amsterdam Rainproof.

The pilot project is being carried out at the request of the Yangon Region Government and Yangon City Development Committee, and is being sponsored jointly by the consortium partners, the Yangon Region Government and the Dutch Government (Partners poor Water program).

As a community engagement and design intern, I was responsible for architectural drawings, design development stage, and conceptual thinking, as well as community interaction for the creation of a public parklet area and the installation of a rainwater harvesting tank at the community library during the project.
